What is the EU withdrawal button?
The EU withdrawal button (also “EU Widerruf Button” or withdrawal button) is a legally required, permanently visible button in the online shop through which consumers can withdraw their contract electronically, without login and in two steps. It is mandatory under § 356a BGB (implementing EU Directive 2023/2673) in B2C distance selling, since 19 June 2026, with no transition period.

Does the obligation apply to me even if I only sell small quantities?
Yes. The EU Directive and § 356a BGB have no minimum-revenue threshold. As soon as you conclude contracts with consumers online, the electronic withdrawal button is mandatory.
Do I also need the button for digital products?
In principle yes, as long as a right of withdrawal exists. For certain digital content it may not apply, which depends on the individual case and should be reviewed by a lawyer.
What happens after a withdrawal?
The customer immediately receives the legal acknowledgement of receipt with content and time. You handle the refund and any return separately in Shopify (§ 357 BGB). Withdrawal is not the same as a return.
Why is the app free?
The button is a legal obligation. We want to keep the barrier as low as possible. The app is public in the Shopify App Store and completely free.
Is this GDPR compliant?
Yes. We process the data as a data processor (DPA), host in the EU, store only what is legally necessary and respond to the GDPR deletion webhooks.
